WDP Convention June 1, 2024, intro and announcement of candidacy

Today, I stand before you not as a politician seeking power, but as a concerned citizen who believes in the fundamental values of our democracy. I refuse to sacrifice my family, my personal life, or my principles to pursue a political career. And I believe none of us should have to make such sacrifices to serve our country.

Our democracy should not be a battleground where individuals fear to tread, but a vibrant space where every voice is welcomed and heard. Yet, the current state of affairs has made participation in public service seem daunting, even perilous. It's time to change that narrative.

I am running a grassroots campaign, devoid of massive funding, because I firmly believe that in a true democracy, money should not dictate who can serve. It's not about how deep your pockets are; it's about how deep your commitment to the people runs.

Running for public office should be an honor, a privilege that we undertake with humility and dedication. And as I embark on this journey, I do so with a deep sense of responsibility to represent the values and needs of everyday Americans.

Let's talk about representation. Representative Harriet Hageman's voting record speaks volumes about where her priorities lie. Time and again, she has chosen policies that favor special interests over the well-being of our communities. Whether it's prioritizing fossil fuel development over addressing climate change, or neglecting comprehensive healthcare solutions, her actions do not reflect the values of the people she's supposed to serve.

Furthermore, her approach to immigration and national security lacks the compassion and fairness that define us as a nation. We cannot turn a blind eye to the contributions of immigrants or the humanitarian crisis at our borders.

On labor issues, Representative Hageman's record is equally troubling. She has consistently voted against measures that support workers' rights and economic security. Her decisions have left working families vulnerable and exposed to exploitation.

And let's not forget her alignment with former President Donald Trump, a man whose actions have been marred by controversy and legal battles. Supporting someone with such a tarnished record raises serious questions about her judgment and integrity.

In contrast, I stand for inclusivity, fairness, and progress. I believe in fighting for clean energy solutions, accessible healthcare, humane immigration policies, and robust protections for workers. These are not just talking points; they are the values that drive me in this campaign.

So, my fellow Wyomingites, I ask you to join me in this journey to reclaim our democracy. Let's build a future where serving the public is not a sacrifice, but a noble calling. Together, we can create a government that truly represents the people, not just the powerful few.
